80-82 vs 83 GS1100e clutch packs
I bought some OEM clutch disks on eBay without doing the proper research because the price was right. Turns out they are for an 83+ 1100\1150 and are thinner. Is the ONLY difference that I need 1 more clutch plate and 2 more steels? I looked at the parts listing for both and the basket, hub, and pressure plate are all the same, just the part number and qty required is different. I can't find a spec for the proper assembled height for the clutch pack. Was this an "upgrade" back in the day? I know about the Barnett plates ripping up the basket, but they are steel and the OEM are aluminum and have the tab folded over to double the thickness.sigpic

I was educated by blowerbike that the 83 and up were more desirable, earlier ones damaged the baskets. If you look in the Gs1150 manual it will give you the specs for thickness.1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things. -

If you already bought the fibers I have some to make up the difference.
You need 10 and 10. I have some new OEM also.Comment

Just think if thinner there will build more heat quicker, but more surface area with an extra plate might make up for that. Flip a coin. I think I would make the trade off for less heat if all this extra plate and being thinner is true. Just me though. I would defiantly go with the O.E.M. plates. FBG does make some good O.E.M replica plates though. Just about all the drag bikes and even Pro Stockers run the O.E.M. in them. Must have something going on!sigpic 82 gs1100ez 1168 Wiseco,Web .348 Cams,Falicon Sprockets,Star Racing Ported Head,1mm o/s Stainless Valves,APE Springs,Bronze Guides, etc.APE Billet Tensioner,36CV Carbs,Stage 3 Dynojet,Plenum w/K&N filter,Trued,Welded,Balanced,Crank w/Katana rods & Billet left end, FBG backcut trans, VHR HD Clutch basket,APE nut,VHR High volume oil pump gears,1150 Oil cooler,V&H Megaphone header w/Competition baffle,Dyna S,Coils,Wires, etc.Other misc.mods.Comment
