PROBLEM: New GS1000 standard rings - too big?

You may want to send an email to those guys referencing this thread so they know there may be a return coming, but maybe more importantly, if they know if that P/N is "known good".

It seems that this would be a pretty big "oops" if the same P/N is available on every Suzuki parts website and they're all 1.0mm OS instead of standard!

I am am going to give them a call in the morning and see what they say. I have always had good customer service with mrcycles

They are definitely over sized. I punched in the part number on partsoutlaw.com and it shows this as a set for the GS450.

It shows part number 12140-49001 for the '79 GS1000L.

Obviously, 12140-44110 is the 1.0 OS rings.

That leaves 12140-49001 as the STD rings.

So I just got off the phone with mrcycles and they told me the 49001 was not even available and that the ones I ordered are standard size rings. I let them know that I think that it is a mistake and will be returning the rings after I verify the size. On partsoutlaw can you order the standard size or does it take you straight to the oversized part number?

But that link says OS:1.0. I don't think anything has been cleared up here. According to the diagram the STD has nothing after the part number, the .5 has -050, the 100 supposedly has a different number to supersede the original with -100

Check the AlphaSports website. I just looked and they show the standard ring 12140-49001 as being available as well as the 12140-49001-100. The price is different for each set and the -100 PN does sub to the part that the OP received so maybe they are available. Pretty messed situation for sure. Funny just checked Babbit's and it comes up with the exact same screens as PartsOutlaw. Did one buy out the other, did they merge or are they just using the same flawed software.

The description is meaningless since that same part number is used for more than one model. STD size rings for one model can be OS for a different model.

PN 12140-49001 is correct for STD rings for the GS1000.

I checked other 79 models all super-cede to that p/n. This is a Suzuki problem, not the dealer. Has Suzuki stopped supplying std. rings? They may only offer them in O.S. because of age. The dealer will need to contact Suzuki.

UPDATE: Called PartsOutlaw and talked to Kelly, who was very helpful about drilling through the misinformation on their website - turns out the 12140-49001 IS the correct P/N for standard rings as others have said (and it is in stock at Suzuki BTW), but the description of this P/N is wrong on the PartsOutlaw website as well as every other website that shows this part!

It is described as STD in the part listing (fiche view), but when you click the link to view the part description, it shows as 1.0 OS. It looks like they all subscribe to the same database and all of them have the same error!

So, to put this to rest - if you need STD rings for a GS1000, order the 12140-49001. If you need 1.0 OS, order the 12140-44110!

When you click on 12140-49001-100 they show it's been superseded by 12140-44110

I just got burned by this as well. Now I have to get bike bandit to take back a 38 dollar set of rings I opened and discovered they are for 1.0 oversize.

I'll be able to return the other 3 sets at least
