oil in cam cover 81 1000g

Hello All - question: starting valve check/adjustment on my '81 1000g. When I removed the cam cover, there is oil standing in 4 of the "pockets" where the cam lobes and buckets reside - and not just a little, like almost full. Is this OK? Bike runs good, no leaks, good oil pressure, etc. Just checking the valves as a routine maintenance thing - and saw this when I lifted the cover. Shouldn't this drain back? Thanks for your time and help. Byron

No worry. It's supposed to be there. It's one of the reasons the 2 valve GS engines have such great durability.

Use some paper towel to soak some of it up if your worried about it spilling and running down the fins. I soak it out when i do adjustment checks as I dont really want to swim in oil doing the job.

I bought a turkey baster for this, but haven't tried it yet.
