    running engine without gearcase oil

Odd question. I'm waiting on O-rings and plug to fix a leak in primary the gear case. In the meantime I want to sync the carbs with my new fancy morgan carbtune. Can I still run the engine with an empty gear case?

Don't see why not. There might be some drag, enough to slowly rotate the back wheel. If you don't want anything to turn 'dry' stick a chock under the back tyre.

This was my rationale as well. I actually began the procedure until I began doubting myself. Thanks!

Sure, run the engine, just don't take it on the road.

I wouldn't feel right at all running it without oil. It's there for a reason.
