    '85 GS1150E Valve Adjustment - What's Good To Replace?

Currently getting tools and parts to work on the valves and carbs of my newly acquired GS1150E. Is there anything I can replace or upgrade while I'm working on the valves? The gasket looks thoroughly gunked and wasted from the outside

    On order, I've got
    -cover gasket
    -half moon gasket
-set of tappet feeler gauges (three sets of two each)
    -tappet adjuster tool
    -carb timing tool
    -carb adjustment tool
    -Factory Service Manual
    -3rd party service manual

I already have tunes and a cold drink. In another thread, it was mentioned getting some spare lock nuts and adjustment screws is a good idea. I'm not sure what part number these are though. Also, should I replace the springs?

Spend lots of quality time carefully removing old gunked up gasket remnants - this might take longer than valve adjusting. Note torque specs for cover bolts
    leave the springs alone

    What's a "carb timing tool " ? I might need one

The 1150 valvecover gasket is one piece, no separate half moons. You may want to order the rubber washers for under the v/c hold down bolts. As Tom said, be very aware when tightening the hold down bolts. They are shouldered bolts and strip very easily when / if bottomed out. Speaking from experience, they strip very easily.

I'll make sure to get every last bit off. I want to do this right the first time. The carb sync tool my buddy is sending me is the same as this tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0qf11BOx6o

With the hold down bolts, so long as I don't' go past the recommended torque specs, all should be well in the world?

And it's good to know about the M7 kit. If I have any stripping, I located one at a local auto repair store 5 miles out.
