1981 GS650 Broken Rear Cam Chain Guide Removed

I have finally completed the splitting of the cases of the 1981 GS650L to remove the broken rear cam chain guide. Now the question is how much more work do I want to do now to clean up and improve the lifespan of the engine before I start putting everything back together?

Remind us how many miles on this one..... Mine has 55000 plus (speedo reads low) and still runs well. My trans shock absorber gizmo is tired, but this is only annoying at low speeds.

27,000 miles +/-. It was running well before the cam chain guide broke and the timing jumped.

I went back thru your posts... So during a sudden stop, apparently rear camchain guide broke somehow- and loose chain jumped... Odd thing to happen. I wonder if tensioner plunger had been sorta frozen in place for a while and the sudden stop allowed it to charge forward into guide. Anyways, let me know if you can't find a replacement guide, cuz I remember getting one in a parts lot a few years back.

The tensioner plunger appears to be moving freely, but is something I plan to disassemble and rebuild prior to reinstalling.

          Thanks,
