Checking internal engine oil flow (how to)??

    Hi All,

I have just finished a complete engine rebuil of my '79 GS850. A part of the treatment was having the engine soda-blasted. It was supposed to be the new big thing, but I have been digging out baking powder from every nook and cranny of the engine, and now I am concerned that the soda might have blocked some of the internal oil channels.

The different engine parts were thoroughly cleaned. Both with pressured air and water, but I would prefer to actually see the oil flow round the engine.

What if I leave the valve cover off, and hand crank the engine? Should that result in oil being transported round the engine, or do I need higher RPM and/or higher oil pressure?

Any tips on validating a proper oil flow would be highly appreciated.

    Thanx

I would at least use the electric starter.
