    Valve cover bolts

The valve cover has 16 bolts, 5 of them are about 1" 5/8 long, 11 of them are about 1" 3/8 long. Where do the longer bolts go (I'm an idiot for not keeping track)? Thank you very much for help.

    for the 78 1000 cover

when insterted in the holes, and not torqued down, if you have them in the right spot, all the bolt heads should be at the same relative height.

been a minute since i had a 1000 cover off, but 2 long ones should be in the middle rear, think two long ones in the middle up front, then 1 each on a corner

Thanks a million! I think I have it correct. Is the protocol to delete a simple post after it's answered?

Suzuki engineers seem to have followed the rule of having two nominal diameters' worth of thread engagement into aluminum. So, an M5 screw should stick out of the hole about 10 mm if it's in the right hole. Follow that rule, and you should have to guess. Unless you have some damaged threads, which this rule will also reveal.
