mystery o ring in oil sump.

Hi. While cleaning my oil sump and strainer, I found an o ring laying in the pan with some other crud.
Does anybody have an idea what it might be? please see attachment. I left a bolt in the photograph for scale. Many thanks. Mike.

Looks big enough to be a starter motor nose sealing ring.

My first thought was the o-ring on the oil filler cap.

Think I would side with Greg t on this and go with starter motor oring looks a little heavy for oil filler.

What engine are you working on? The 16 valve 1100 and 1150 engines have an oring between the oil pan and cases.

yes sorry for not giving the details. My Bike is a 1978 gs750. The I.D. of the o ring looks to be around 32mm, though that may be a little off because it's in pieces. I think you may be right Steve it looks very similar to the filler cap o ring that is on the cap. I guess the one now on the cap could be a replacement. Greg I'll also take a look at the starter motor nose sealing ring. thank you for the replies. Mike

Hi. When re assembling internal components such as the oil sump filter screen, is it advisable to use loctite or is just torqued to spec ok? Thanks again Mike.

Personally I put the slightest dap of blue loctite on the screen screws, don't go over the top with it after all you will want to remove them at some point.
