79' gs550 engine in 81'gs550t ?

Hello i have a 1981 gs550t with a thrown rod, will a 79' engine fit in it ? Using the 81' carbs ?

I think the engine will physically fit into the chassis. The '81 carbs won't fit though because the early engine has smaller intake ports and the boots won't fit. Also, the later bikes used an electronic ignition system whereas the early bikes used points. You could switch that over though.
