Camshaft swap
Can you install a 1983 GS 750 cam into a 1980 GS 750 if you use the cam chain gear from the 1980?
Thank you?Tags: None -
What model 83 750? if and E or ES, I'm thinking not, as that engine is different. If the 83 is an S or T, then maybe. A little research shows that the Exhaust Cams are the same, but the Intake Cams are different, but I don't know how different.
The other thing to consider, and I'm not experienced in this, is: Aren't the cams bored to go in a specific engine? I mean cams from same year/model engines should fit, but didn't they bore each engine's cam journals for the specific set of cams that were going in the head? That's just my, very likely wrong, idea from something I believe I've read.

you are getting mixed up with cams and cam caps, it is the cam caps that are bored to the head and should always be used as a set.

Got it. That makes much more sense. So there should be no issues swapping cam shafts between like engines, just be sure to keep the cam caps with the head in which they were originally bored.Comment

yes the caps are fitted with markings so they go back in the correct places it shows it in the workshop manualThe big guy up there rides a Suzuki (this I know)
