GS1000 parts interchange?

I have ordered a book about an hour ago but had a few questions about parts since I need so many. I can find GS850, 750, and 550 parts way cheaper and easier. For now my search is for my missing components.

Is my motor number GS1000-127390 a 1979?
Will the GS850 or 750 clutch assembly fit my GS1000? As in the entire show... It's all gone inside there...
The entire ignition, flywheel, starter clutch, and chain cover. As above I can find them for the smaller bikes and newer ones cheaper.

Also, Back in the day guys used to throw away the carbs and run a set of side drafts on their CB750's. Had one back in the day like that. I'm probably going to attempt this and will build my own manifold. Other than hardcore fans of factory stuff is there a reason to avoid this? I do realize that this is not the most practical and the cost will be about the same as will the labor. I assume that dejetting is needed since the carbs would be for basically twice the CC's.

My attempts to find parts have been poor. I know that I want to put new bearings and gaskets with rings in this at a minimum but haven't found any real kits on the web yet. I admit to not looking very hard because I don't know if I got my year right or close enough and it appears to be a changing point for the parts.

Most Suzuki dealer parts fiches will show
what engines a part fits
Neither of those clutches will fit a 1000.

There's only 2 major changes in 8V chain drive 1000 motors
The front bolt for the head/cylinder, supposedly in 79
The 78-79 motors used VM 26 carbs, the 80 motor had BS 34s
The 80 motors are pretty rare

Thank you Big T!!! I knew my local dealer would not even entertain a request to look at their fiches but they had it on their website. Probably to help curve the need to speak to people like me. Very good resource.

Do a google search on "oem Suzuki motorcycle parts." There are a large number of dealership sources with online parts fishe lookups. Partzilla.com is a good one. Once you find the part you click on it and it will show what bikes also used that same part.
