How much is enough clearcoat?

That's it really. How much is enough clearcoat? How do I know when to stop?

Well, what are you spraying, and what are you spraying with?

I usually lay down a light to medium tack coat, let it flash off until it's stringy and then lay on a thicker top coat. Add a third coat when it flashes off if you plan on doing a ton of color sanding, or are trying to bury stickers or graphics.

This would be with two-part paint like PPG...if you are using a rattle can...I'd do at least three and keep gasoline away from it after it's done.

Assuming you are using a gun and good paint, 3 coats is all that is needed.
