how do I make he engine shine?

I've got a bike that is in great shap mechanically....a 1979 GS850...BUT the metal parts are kinda dingy looking. The tank and sides I can paint, but how about those engince/ clutch covers...any advice on restoring their luster, or do I need to buy new ones?

I've just started on mine. If you do a search you'll find a couple different ways. They both involve stripping the preexisting clear coat that's there. One involves various grade of steel wool. I am going the wet sanding method... Start at 400, then 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000, followed by metal polish until it shines. Then wax

Be careful when polishing your engine. Chances are, it won't stop there. You'll become an addict!
