Painting at home you can do it!

Well all, YES i know it's not a suzuki!!!!, but this is an example of an at home, in an open garage (no spray booth) using a one h.p. compressor (very undersized), first time using an hvlp spray gun on more than a small panel paint job (i'm not a painter), duplicolor spray bomb etching primer, do it yourself plastic filler dent repair... don't be afraid to try it yourself, what's the worst you can do if you take your time, this? it's pharkin shiny AND gas resistant.
it was getting dusty when i took some of these pictures and i dont want to wipe it off until i wet sand and clear it.

some dummy (not me) painted it wrinkle finish black i may pull the engine and redo it.

a snap-on bf700 which is a sharpe "sfg" (discontinued) gravity feed hvlp, i also have an old devibiss mbc which i am going to use for the clear on it, i just wanted to try my hand at an hvlp and this was the result.

You're right, that's way better than what I have at the moment. It looks great to my eye. How much time do you have into the paint so far, including prep? How'd you keep the usual garage dust down?

To my eye, I could see where the PO was going with that black case work. An aggresive wrinkle finish like some of today HD's would look good, just not on the jugs man, not the jugs!

tank, side covers, tail piece, case savers, swing arm and torque link i'm guessing 60-70 hours stripping, priming, filling dents, sanding smooth, priming again, blocking, painting and redoing the tail piece. the painting was done at three different times, as far as dust control, sweep, shop vac and wet down the floor before painting and it helps that i painted when there was no wind and it had rained the day before. the swing arm and torque link i sprayed hanging from the rafters and when the paint had flashed (solvent evaporated) and were dust free (about 45 mins) i hung them between two saw horses in the driveway to finish drying.

The engine on the honda was a satin black from the factory, when the p.o. pulled the engine, he refinished the engine, case savers and the rear fender (plastic!) with a wrinkle finish paint.

You must own a suzuki too, to have found this web site.The job you did is wonderful.I just yestrerday got my bike back together and want to post pictures of its fairing,highway pegs,new seat,but have never figured out how to do it.Great job on your bike.I like the black engine myself.

Ron, thanks for the complement and yes i do have a suzuki a link for it is in my signature line a gs850gz. go to a photo hosting site such as photobucket.com sign up and in there is a button for uploading images to the site click on browse find the pictures on your computer you would like to upload and there you go! now to link them in your message you need to put a {url] before the link and {/url] after the link ( just be sure to replace the { with a [), just cut and paste the address under the photobucket image in between them, any problems with doing it just ask.

That MBC is a hog, old skool suction gun, I have 6 back from the tractor/trailer days. Still ues them for heavy glitter.
