I am struggling to find a good performance exhaust for my GS1000E (1979) there seems to me to be very little choice out there. I am based in the uk. I have seen the Vance Hines available in the US and the awful looking Motad. Surely there are more choices out there, does anybody know of any?:-|

I have a Vance and Hines chrome on my 850 (which they also have for GS1000's)which you see in a lot of photo's on this site, it's a nice sounding exhaust definately louder than stock, looks good and the chrome holds up well, and I have a Jardine 4 into 1 on my GS1000E (78) that is a black painted header with a chrome oval muffler, and it has a deep quieter sound than theV&H and center stand use is restricted even though it says you can use it(not without putting a dent into the pipe) these are the only 2 quality systems I could find although on this site I have seen pics of bikes with GSXR like systems installed with a large upswept canister installed. -

Have you tried Katana ones as they should bolt up with very little effort. My 1000s bolts on to a Kat with just a braket change around the exhaust.Comment

Jardine 4 into 1
I have a Jardine 4 into 1 on my '82 Katana 1000. It's got a slip on and black pipes, which would look good with color, chrome black combo you have going on. ~GeneComment

Pics of Jardine Exhaust
If you follow the link below it will take you to my previous post with pics of the Jardine exhaust on my Katana. I bought it through Star Cycle in California for $361.00 I believe. I don't have the part number; however, I would be happy to send you a link to their website and I'm sure if I called them they could look up my order and pull the part number. I only say that because you'll never find it on Jardine's website. I had to call them to make sure that they still made one. ~Gene

Hey Billy,
What, if anything has to happen with those cylindrical things on the inside of the head-pipes?

Exhaust for GS1000
I just read your post on aftermarket exhausts for GS1000's. What I did was I bought a used 4 in 1 header for mine on E-Bay just to used the front section. I then bought a used chrome canister from a bike salvage yard and fabricated an aluminum bracket for the canister. The bracket is one piece and bolts behind the rear footpeg. I have a friend that owns a muffler shop that fabricated the pipe to connect the two pieces together. It came out very nice and sounds great. It looks factory made and I can still use the center stand. I have some pics but they are to large to post here. E-mail me and I will sent them to you.
God Bless,

The small canisters on the inside of the pipes are claimed to store a bit of pressure to boost midrange when you get back on the throttle coming out of turns and such. They are what makes a Duplex what it is. They fit the bike nicely as is although the pipe is a tight fit under the sump.Comment
