What do you guys think the chances are for a cafe conversion being the bike of the month? Should I go for it? I feel a little boastful asking, but every parent thinks their kid is the cutest one in the world.

Like I said, this thing is far from perfect up close, but if you've ever been near a utilitarian racer it is actually pretty close. I kinda like the rawer look, although this thing will hopefully get more and more refined over the years.

Absolutely beautiful. Should definitely be a BOM. I absolutely gushed over these pictures when showing them to a buddy during a conversation on cafe racers.

Well, I am an idiot. Last night the clouds parted, and I immediately knew what was wrong with my starter relay.

I Painted my battery box, and I scuffed it up where the grounds attach, but I forgot to scuff it where the relay attaches. I ran a wire from the mounting screw to ground, and it worked great. Hah! Live and learn.

Wheeled both the kids out into the sun today:

Dude, I am in love with your bike. I am starting out on almost exactly the same build myself - '77, GS750 Cafe Racer.

The only major difference being that I am going for the old style 'chrome everything' look. When I get it finished I want it to absolutely glisten.

I have already made a new tail piece (similar to the way you did) except mine is 1.2mm stainless sheet which I have folded up to look similar to the original tail.

I have absolutely loved reading this thread (from the other side of the world) and enjoy the wit and sarcasm very much.

It seems from the picture that if you hit a good size bump in the road, that tire is going to come up and tear that license plate right off.

Actually, I thought of that. It is angled back enough that the wheel will bottom out before it hits the plate. I am still not sure if that is where I am going to keep it, it is more of a test fit. Although keeping it there allows me to make use of the plate light.

Yup, it's that simple, except I used more of a flat peen hammer.

It snowed a few inches here last night, so I won't be wheeling her out and starting her for a couple days. When that happens, I will try to get something with some sound.

Post some pics of your project, I would like to check it out.

One of my goals is to get to Australia in the next two years (although I am not looking forward to the flight). If I do I will look you up for a day of riding.
