My problem was that it was for family. But seems like that didn't affect my uncle as much as it did me.... And yeah I learned that good work gets around and pretty much a few good jobs at a lower price means you can charge whatever the hell you want later on. A month or so later the same uncle said a buddy of his had a project for me and my brother. But school work wasn't allowing it so I turned it downOriginally posted by TheCafeKid View Post

I still get bugged by family and friends to help them out with this or do that for them, but i all but sold off all my tools and my van and everything..i was pretty fed up and didnt want to mess with it anymore. Made good money for a while, But i was working 16 hours a day 6 and 7 days a week. I was going nuts and worn out.

Who say's working for yourself is like taking a break. Pssh.... Yeah doing mechanics and all that house crap has aged me horrible. I've never played sports, I was always a music man myself, and yet my bone rattle and creak like I was a footballer for years. I could probably make money doing it now but eh.... college is like taking a break from that back breaking stuff.... Atleast for now anywaysOriginally posted by TheCafeKid View PostI still get bugged by family and friends to help them out with this or do that for them, but i all but sold off all my tools and my van and everything..i was pretty fed up and didnt want to mess with it anymore. By any chance do you know a place where I can get good metal working tools? Like dollies and hammers? The GF is considering buying me some tools for Christmas (YAY i know) and those are on the list

Welp..did a bunch of stuff on the bike today...didnt feel like i got alot done, but in hindsight its more than i have been able to get done in a couple weeks. Got my bar end mirrors on. Changed my oil filter, resulting in a mess (guess i didnt get all the oil out when draining..lol) got my header bolted back up. And took another crack at my points..I think i got em set right..we'll find out. Also spent some time on quadruple and (whatever five times is) checking my float levels before i mount these carbs back up..tomorrow AM ill fab a bracket to hang my meg on, cos the old one was attached to the swingarm..tho i wonder how much it matters whether its attached there or not? Anyone? Put some oil in her, and crank her over and see what happens.
Yet to be done before the final breakdown for paint and cleanup:
Dyna system
Seat and pan
Turn sigs
lil bit of wiring
finish up my new tank and seal it
change out the starter clutch and possibly the starter motor...we'll see

That's my current project right now. I'm cutting up the seat and pan. I'm cutting the pan with metal sheers and damn if it isn't alot of work. Fvcking things must be dull. And for a metal shaping hammer I'm using a contractor's hammer and a heavy sanding block.... Ghetto I know but its the best I can do without the right tools :-DOriginally posted by TheCafeKid View PostWelp..did a bunch of stuff on the bike today...didnt feel like i got alot done, but in hindsight its more than i have been able to get done in a couple weeks. go to harbor freight and buy an angle grinder and some metal cut off wheels. It has been my godsend for the last few years . cutting springs , seat pans , exhausts , body kits , bumpers , mounts , bumpstops , shocks , fenders , hoods , frozen nuts and bolts , used it to "machine" accents on valve covers , intake manifolds , cut frames . MY GOODNESS.Originally posted by Ironriot View PostThat's my current project right now. I'm cutting up the seat and pan. I'm cutting the pan with metal sheers and damn if it isn't alot of work. it's an amazing tool.
about 20.00 and a 10 pack of discs is like 5 bucks.
I just bought a new grinder as my old one was wearing out after like 3 years or so.
