    Switch handle bars

Odd question... When switching out handle bars from stock, do I need to drill a set hole for the switch gear???? Stock bars had a hole for the switch gear to fit into and the new bars don't. It is totally necessary???

    Thanks in advance.

My preference is to remove the pin on the switchgear so that I can set the levers to the angle and position I want. I tweak every bike I have to get everything where I want it, which is seldom where the OEM put it. The only bike I have had in the last 15 years that didn't need adjustment is my 06 GSXR1K, everything else got moved at least a bit.

I agree with Mark, I removed my pin. You might want to put a rap of grip tape, or something similar, where you finally decide to position your controls to stop them from slipping.

Agreed with above. My bike didn't have the pin, but I recommend pulling it and not worrying about drilling the doggone hole. Just tighten everything and make sure it doesn't rotate.

Mine doesn't have it as stock.... Nessism told me his throttle rotated on his 550 without it, he had to put the hole in I think.

            True that.

Stock bars on both my 550's had the holes, stock bars have serrated ridges on them as well. Took out the anti-rotation tab on one bike when changing to Bike Master bars (without the serrated ridges) and the throttle switch cluster rotated causing problems. Had to buy a left side switch housing just to get the little sheetmetal tab and drill the bars to fix the problem.

Not sure about the other models but the 550's have the tabs.
