Daytona or Clubman? The debate begins

Hey gang!

Got the clearance to get started next week with rebuilding my 750. I've got most of the parts I want pulled into a list with one exception. The stock handlebars frankly, I don't like them, so a new set is in order. Only problem is, which ones would work better? I'm keeping the stock seat for now, and drag bars have never been a friend of mine in the past. The only two I've seriously considered are the daytona style and the clubman style. Anyone have some insight as to some pros and cons of either style? Also, What is the diameter of our handlebars? I'm thinking it's 7/8"


Mainly I'll be riding around town, to and from work which is a 5 mile ride, and some nice twisty roads to the state park with some of the local groups on the weekends.

Well if you don't like drag bars why would you consider clubmans? They put you in an even worse riding position whith your hands below the top triple clamp. I'm not familiar with "daytona" style bars but have really enjoyed a Flanders bend called ST1100 (I guess after the Honda model). At 5'10" it puts me in a really nice position with just a slight forward lean and wide enough to lever an 1100 around with no problem.

I have clubman's on my cafe and superbike bars on my 450. The clubmans are great for short rides and their good for a 4-5 hour ride. Your throttle hand will go numb after 30mins of riding, you just have to keep your fingers taping on the brake lever to shake it off :-D If your going cafe racer and short ride go with the clubmans. They look cool and you feel like a fighter pilot tearing through the twisties. If your looking for that old brit bike feel with low rise bars, go with the superbike bend.

In the end its up to you. You can get either set for around $20 and change them out depending on your upcoming ride.

How much lower are the superbikes than the stock GS bars on an E model?

True, I'm not thinking clearly, I'm 6'2" and hate having to arch my back so much. I looked at the Flanders bars and wrote the measuremnts down. What I'll end up doing is getting a low-cost set of clubmans, and a set of streetfighters and compare them. I'll keep you guys posted.

I had clubmans on Two GS 1100e's back in the 80's and loved them.....although I am 6'3" and have long arms.....I could ride and still sit semi forward but with my left hand on my left leg....(not sitting up but not being so forward that I had to have both hands on the bars) I just bought another GS 1100e and picked up a set of drag bars....I am think that being 20 years older than when I owned my last GS....this ridding position maybe aprox to my body what the clubmans were when I was 20.....meaning...what was comfortable then......may not be now.....but since they are only $25 I will probably eventually try some on....as ultimatly I would love to run clip ons.....just want to make sure I am comfortable enough.......Oh, and I rarely ride more than an hour at a time.....

Handlebars

Super bike bars on my 550T is just about right. i still have stock seat. Ialso have severe back problems. Checkout homepage BOLT ONS on this site, shows best ride position, SAN.

Ive been running MX bars of of a dirt bike. I like them so well I sprung for a set of renthals to replace my old dirt bike takeoff steel ones.

The Renthal Street fighter bars are my favorite and I'm 6'6 really good control over the bike to throw it around there comfortable position for me but they are a little bit more expensive then basic bars like clubmans. Here is a Pic from Spdjunkie (they look like this not sure if they are the streetfighter bars thou)

I have Euro bars, just a tad higher than Daytona's. I like them but I'm only 5' 8".
