Thanks Dan and Tone... PJ1 $15 a can... that would be somewhere around $20 Aus at the moment I would think, so not too bad, only a few more than what they had on the shelf.

With the Septone stuff I was just impressed by the range.

I'll have to go back and find out what they're charging for the PJ1 and how long it takes to order because it's not on the shelf.

I did a Google search on Septone vs PJ1 and only found two threads on other forums that have used it... both good reports but nothing compared to PJ1 results!

Do these paints have to be heat cured in an "old oven", or will the engine temp cure them just fine?

Don't know about PJ1, VHT, or POR 15, but when I read the Septone can yesterday, it said the heat of the engine in normal running was sufficient to bake the finish on. That was another thing I liked about it

However, they do have an alternative brand Septone. Anyone used this one? The have lots of stuff that could be good... engine, exhaust, brake caliper, you name it.

Engine paint is $16 for a 400g can and I think the brake caliper paint was $18 for 400g.

I didn't bother asking anyone about PJ1 or VHT as I was in a bit of a hurry, but I will have to go back and do that to compare.
          PM sent about VHT paint

It's a custom made system by a British outfit called Racefit.

On the subject of paint PJ1 have stopped doing the range of colours they used to. I tried their Barrel silver first but that was to in your face so managed to get hold of whats called Yamaha case silver and I used 3 cans.

I'm only really interested in gloss back FWIW... any idea if the VHT barrel paint can be used for the whole motor? The case paint is only available in a satin finish by the looks.

And the rest. Shocks look like CB1300 ones. Just need exhaust and new shocks for mine at the moment. Ohlins are $2500 so thats crap. Been looking at Wilbers shocks. Any one have dealing with them Thanks

Yes they were cb1300 shocks but have now changed them for Ohlins. If I remember right Wilbers were almost as expensive.
PJI do a good satin black engine paint that I have used a couple of times, I always try and warn the part first before applying as ut seems to give a more uniform finish and dries quicker.

Just in case I wasn't confused enough with this, I now find out that PJH Brands owned both PJ1 and VHT, and sold the VHT brand to the Sherwin-Williams Company in 2007.

Apparently all the motorcycle VHT stuff was being transitioned to the PJ1 brand. Interesting...

Hi Pete, glad to see a local on the board, Iam in Brisvegas as well. Septone is an Aussie company and their paint products are fine. They also have spray-can wax and grease remover for cleaning surfaces prior to painting that are compatable with their paint products. Septone may not have the profile of other companies but they are just as good if not better than most. And no this is not a plug for them and I don't work for them. I have been down this road myself so its just my contribution to the file. In the end I went with POR15 as it can be brushed as well as used in a gun so it makes touch up easier and it will colour match being from the same tin. Let us know how it turns out, cheers mate.

I shot my 1000 engine over the holiday using POR-15 aluminum colored engine paint. Just my impression so far but the paint seems significantly tougher than rattle can VHT paint I’ve used before. After drying for a few days the paint seems almost impervious to finger nail scratching for example and the paint seems hard and kind of slippery. Pretty good stuff me thinks.

                              Pics Please

I just did some test pieces on my GS750 so would like to see more.

I think I did Aluminum Engine paint with Clear coat on my Frame:

I think I actually used this as well on the GS750 engine?

I really need to go see the place locally that's supposed to stock the POR 15 stuff. From memory though, my only concern was that their engine paint had no UV qualities, so may not be good in the long term for a naked bike, but I may be remembering that wrong.

And Shin-Ken, there are actually a few of us Brisvegas fellas around the place here... I think we just like to hide

I'm tempted though to go the Septone path purely due to convenience... but then again I don't really wanna compromise given the amount of effort I'm planning on putting into the job... so basically I'm still confused
