painting carbs.

So, let's say I wanna paint my carbs black.
"I wanna paint my carbs black".
If I leave them all assembled and tape off the bowls, throats and tops, are there any other spots I should cover or stick a wire in like vents or such? Don't wanna go blastin away with the rattlecan and plug up an important orifice.

Not sure, but gonna have to be caliper or engine paint and likey baked on (which might damage rubber internals) or it won't last long under all the fuel exposure they'll get.

Don't think assembled would be such a good Idea.
Idle screw, sync screws, air screws, choke rail.......

Might be an "ah oh!!!" once needing to adjust things.

If I was gonna do it, I'd powdercoat. Rack of carbs should be less than $100.

I've read through a few of the threads concerning bruce's rebuilds and painting the carb bodies. I'm very impressed with his results but I am not looking to go through that much. They are freshly rebuilt with a dynojet kit and I would prefer to not tear them down. ( I absolutely HATE working on carbs). was hoping I could just shoot them while assembled without doing any damage.

I painted the carbs on my wife's 850L without disassembling them. I didn't even take them off the bike.

I imagine that if I were to use some chemicals or high pressure spray to clean them, I would probably blow some of the paint off, but as you can see, that hasn't happened yet.

Steve, thanks, that's what i'm talkin about, no issues with painting them on the bike then. Did you have to tape off any orifices other than the bowls,tops and idle screws?

Jwhelan. I know, those carbs are absolutely gorgeous! But I'm not interested in doing that much work OR spending the money to have them done. Not now at least. The bike has already done a good job of emptying my pockets, and I'm not spending any more on her this season. (he said, knowing full well it was a futile attempt to prevent further expenditures)
