My GS is almost ready....

Hi all,
I bought this bike completely stock from its second owner, he bought it in 1980.After a 7 hour drive and 450$cdn later, I have a GS1000 disguised as a custom.
Plans were to drive it like this, or maybe add a 4/1 exhaust nothing too complicated.First thing to go was the luggage rack and custom handlebar.Last winter i bought a complete rolling gear from a 1986 gsxr. Started to put these on but changed my plan again when I saw a 1991 GSXR1100 for sale locally for 500$.I bought it for the rolling gear only and sold the rest.....And voila, a usd fork + 17'' wheels free.
Still needs some finishing touches, but i hope to ride it by the end of the month...(or at least before the snow starts falling)

(PS, front fender on pic looks blue but it is purple like the rest, the clear and flash made it look like that)

seat should be covered this week!

Here's to the begining of a long love-hate relationship LOL.

Nice more on the slingshot 1100 . That was a cheap 17" wheel conversion and you got all the parts.

U gonna swap out the sidewinder?

I have a V&H street megaphone, but I am in love with the look of the sidewinder. I think that I am going to burn my calf on it before it scrapes on the asphalt .

I had a sidewinder on my KZ900 and scraped it around corners at will. It was a big distraction for those I rode with until they got used to it and just ignored it.

Hi,
I was able to ride this evening, I have small "gremlins" but everything seem fine.Very happy with the torque of this old bike.
Here a small list of thing to do:sync the carbs,better fixing of cooler lines, 1 headlight has become yellow, adjust the chain.And my chinese speedometer is a bunch of crap(cant even programming it).
I will post pics later this week. Really like the purple paint and white stipping.

Very happy with the torque of this old bike.

I'm surprised every ride with the power my old GS1K has, and speed to boot! The only thing that I don't like about it, it's really hard to ride it sanely. I know that'll catch up to me some day. Very nice bike, you've done a great job on it. If you find any other GSXR 1100's for that kind of cake, let me know. I'm in the market for one.

You're on your way to a really nice ride. Great work. A couple of questions, did you fill the dent in the tank with Bondo or some such, or were you able to somehow pop it out? Also, what fitting issues did you encounter when installing the forks and swing arm? I have a 1986 GSXR fork and triple tree set I'm keeping for my 650 if ever needed.

Rudy, do you need a specific year? If i find another one i will let you know.My Gf actually grew up in St-Catherines, we goes around here for friends and familly 2-3 times a years.

Flaggo, i have only fill the dent with bondo, i will (pay to) repaint the bike professionally this winter and probably try to pop up the dent.Where i work there are a body shop.The fork is a bolt on affair, just need to grind or fab out new fork stopper, very easy.
For the swingarm you have to use the old inner bushing of the swingarm mounting bolt because the difference 20mm versus 16mm if i remember correctly.I have machined 2 shock bracket from billet alu and a coworker welded them in place.Ended with a 1/2 offset sprocket.
