I have a 82 gs 1100e, i'm looking for new (smaller) gauges. will gsx gauges work, wiring and all

The earlier GSX gauges will work fairly easily but the numaric electric speedo is something that Im sure you could fiddle with but buying the clocks alone wont give you the electronic sender unit for the speed reading

I got me a much smaller speedo and tach that works with the original mechanical sending equipment through JC Whitney. They cost 44 a piece and look great.

Did the speedo and tac work with the instrument cluster and the old mounting hardware or did you use the bar mounts?

Also what model GS?
