Are there any other sized gas tanks that would fit my GS850GL with no modification? I would like to get a bigger one.

my gs1000gl tank fits my friends gs850 tank and its a 6 gal tank -
the standard G tank should be a direct bolt on. not sure what it would look like gainst the GL side covers and seat though

No, the standard G tank is too large and will not clear the triple tree. I modified my 850 GLT to fit up a larger tank. There is a frame difference between the L and the G that prevents swapping those tanks (G frame is longer, configured differently than the L). I've got the '80 G parts bike that I took parts from to put a little bit of G in my L.
I'll post the shortcut to that thread for you on edit. I think the consensus on the tank I installed is that it is from a 550 E or something of that nature. It's a 4.5 gal tank vs the original 3.2 gal tank. Looks better and I can go further between fill ups.
