Gold GS badges?

I've got a '79 GS550 and a '78 GS750 .. both were Australian delivered and have silver "GS" sidepanel badges. All the NOS ones I see are gold .. and I'm wondering what models/markets used gold badging?

I have a 79 GS 1000 L, it had Gold badges. Oh yea forgot to tell you, I got mine brand new from the dealership, not too awfully expensive either.

My 1980 GS750L had the gold badges. Sold in the American market.

Silver ..

Looks like the L models usually had gold badges, but not the normal models?

.. I'm wondering why gold side panel badges when the Suzuki tank badge seems to be always silver?
