And by "he" who exactly do you mean, Nessism? Me? Some other poor hard working savior of our constitutional protections? No big loss indeed!! Shame on you TMC, it's the lawyers who keep the govt. police state from kickin your doors in. Modern day Thomas Paines. OK, rant over.

You cannot go wrong by buying a quality helmet offered at a substantially lower price on closeout (mainly due to the arrival of new graphics/colour schemes for the current season). Scorpion, Icon, Shark etc. all manufacture quality helmets too, and at full price these are also several hundred dollars each....the real bargains are when they appear on closeout for 1/2 the original price.

I just received my new Bell Vortex (Torn Gold colored) from a closeout deal for $99.99... $110.00 shipped. Seems to be a really nice helmet for the price.

My comment on helmets wasn't just off the cuff thing. Alot of this was taking from articles written in several Motorcycle publications and articles from the AMA and helmet manufactures. I don't take helmet use lightly and I won't second guess the research done on helmets. Everyone has their opinion, though make sure it is a well informed one. What's on your head?

I've been riding 30+ years, before I even look at a new helmet I do my research on the latest greatest ones. I've owned Shoei, Arai, Flumer, HJC, to name a few. Don't know anything about helmets, pleeeeeeeeeeeze.

Oh right. You mean the publications that funnily enough have advertisements for said products, beautifully displayed in between such articles
                been there, done that

                  Helmet Rules:
                  1. Replace your helmet every 3-5 years regardless how good it looks.

3-5 years means nothing, how much use, how much wear, how much sweat and dust. I have probably never kept one three to five years.

                  2. If you have ever dropped your helmet onto a hard surface...replace it, the helmet is only good for one impact.

Dropping an empty helmet is nothing like the kind of impact they are designed to withstand. They are certified for two impacts on exactly the same spot, and they are designed to protect in a fall with multiple impacts, such as tumbling down a road.

                  3. NEVER EVER buy a used helmet. The foam only will conform to one head. A used helmet will NOT fit properly ever.

UNless it happens to fit well. I don't buy used ones just like I don't buy used underwear, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't fit.

                  4. NEVER sell a used helmet PERIOD!

I will sell one if the idiot would be riding without one otherwise.

                  5. Do not wear a dew rag or anything on your head with a helmet on, the foam can not properly form to your head contours with either on.
                  Bull****.

                  6. When buying a new helmet you have to try them on to ensure a proper fit. Buying out of a catalog or off ebay will not do that! Go to a bike shop and try on helmets. One Med will not fit like the next Med and so on, you have to try them on.

Again, if it fits it fits. I like HJC XL, every HJC XL has fit perfectly.
Bought several others online, some fit, some get sent back.

Your head is priceless and can't be replaced, buy a helmet worthy of your head.
