The guy that stitched the top did a fabulous job. If the vinyl was thicker, and matched the original cowhide pattern a little better it would be almost perfect.

I have been corresponding with PIT, more like PITA! They are not accepting that thie diamond pattern is the correct seat for my 1980.
I sent pictures of my seat, along with pictures of bikes with the diamond seat pattern. The are saying I don't have the pattern right.
So, I don't think they will be any help.Comment

Vmass- I've had same discussion re correct '80 S seats too. Unfortunately, parts fiche shows same seat profile and vinyl pattern for both years... unstepped w/ square pattern, so I guess that's PIT's argument. However, perhaps this link from CycleWorld will help your case:

Thanksfor the thread. I have actually made some progress. We are discussing the option of me sending my seat cover to them so they can make a replica.
I have asked them how long it will take and if I will get my original cover back.

This is what I was told in regard to sending my seat:
Hi,
In order to make an accurate seat cover, I need to cut the original seat cover into their individual pieces so to trace their shape accordingly. As such the original seat cover will be destroyed. However, I assure you that my replica seat cover will be of excellent quality and nothing inferior to the original.
I am a little hesitant to cut up my original seat. But, in the name of progress, I guess I will.

Your guy did a really nice job. Not sure what it cost you but if I send mine to PITA, they will obviously have additional ones available for other guys.
Seems their covers are in the $90 dollar range.Comment

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out Rich. The sewing pattern is not difficult to replicate but I hope they have the right vinyl material. The original vinyl is cowhide pattern, and the graining is somewhat random looking, not uniform. It's thick too.Ed

More correspondence with Bangkok.... I sent Ed's comments and got a reply stating they innovated a method to make waterproof seats by embossing the stitch look, instead of actually stitching.
They also said that they can do the stitch method like the original.
I told them to do the latter.Comment

Interesting.... your seat is the embossed type ( not real stitching ). This is what Bangkok wanted to do to the S replica seat. After discussing options, we decided to do actual stitching like the original.Comment
