    Custom Made lower fairings - 83 550esd

So, im a sheet metal apprentice and have been looking around for some lower fairings for my 83. But they are damn near impossible to find so, im going to fabricate my own lowers using 22 guage Galvanized sheet metal. Could take awhile but i think it will look nice. Im going to flare them out similar to the newer bikes to create more of a wind block and add some depth to the bike. I will post the some of the pre-drawings soon and keep this updated as i go on.

I'll be curious to see how well you're able to get paint to stick to it.
    Good luck.

Common sense has become so uncommon that I consider it a super power.

    Present Stable includes:
    '74 GT750 Resto-mod I've owned since '79
    '83 GS1100E (The best E I've ever enjoyed, Joe Nardy's former bike)
    '82 GS1100G Resto project

i would suggest aluminum instead of steel. Way lighter and easier to work with.
78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project
      82 Kat 1000 Project
      05 CRF450x
      10 990 ADV-R The big dirt bike

Other option for painting is to bake it.

Or you can use a filler (bondo) really light layer or an epoxy primer. Either works.

I'll be interested in seeing the pictures when you're done. Better yet, take some as you go showing us your progress.
