Can a stator case alone win BOM.

I'm thinking I have somewhere around 15 hours in that case. Some of that time was trial and error, redoing things that I messed up. I learned a few lessons. I had to put it down and work on something else a few times as well. It got frustrating, but once I turned a corner with getting most of the scratches out it was all downhill. Glad I stuck it out. Much more pleased with the result.

Of course now it means I have to make the other cases look the same.

How did you deal with the scrapes and what was your process to get those results?

The process was as follows:

Started with ratty case that looks like it's been laid over on gravel.


Grind and shape the gouged areas and deep scratches with a dremmel.


Removed the emblem by using a small flat head screwdriver and used some paint stripper to remove the epoxy:


Started sanding: 80 grit 400 - 800 -1000 - 2000 learned that I needed to spend most of my time with the 400 to get out all the scratches. After I couldn't see anymore scratches after 800 then I went on to 1000 and 2000. There was a lot of redoing during this step. After sanding I then went to the polishing wheel with the brown then white then green rouge bars. I didn't rush any steps and learned not to move on until the current stage was done right. Honestly it was frustrating at some points but I'm glad I stuck it out.

Absolutely gorgeous. Once you get them all done look into getting them clear-coated with a pro grade product. Leaving them naked will require a lot more time in the garage than on the road to keep them looking so nice. However if you do leave em naked, invest in a high speed drill or if you have a compressor, a grinder that you can outfit with smaller buffing wheels. I've used those in the past and they'll work quite well for keeping them looking nice. Maybe not quite as pretty as that once road grime and water and such start to attack the Alu, but pretty close.

Good thoughts. Think I'll go with some wizards power seal and see how that does. I'll also take lots of pictures before i put it back on the road.

Got suggestions for clear coat. I've seen where others say that it eventually yellows.
