    Header pipe condition

    Original pipes from a 78 1000.

    Surface rust.

    Possiblilty of refurbishing them?

I figured once the rust pitted the chrome there was no hope.

You can probably get them rechromed but at what cost, likely not cheap. What I have done on a couple of bikes is either paint them black or even silver. They come out fairly presentable.

Some guys use pipe wrap and while I never liked the look of it, if its dark wrap its not too bad. Gatekeeper's pipes were wrapped and they look very nice. This has an added benefit of covering dints or scrapes too.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Depends what you are willing to spend. There is a company called hot coat that can refinish headers and they have a pretty good warranty. They have a website I think.

Also could have them ceramic coated. They have a chrome ceramic finish that looks good. But they are both expensive options.

I'm getting my V&H 4 into one header and slip on ceramic coated for less than I can buy new pipes. And it will be better than new.

I have used jet-hot several times and been pleased with the results.
