Brass gas cap

Hi huys, while out on an errand on my 1100 today at my local Crappy Tire store, I came out to my bike to find a guy admiring my bike. You know the story...he said he had the same bike when he was a young lad. He told me that my gas cap is brass and he had polished his up. I thought that would look pretty cool against the blue of my tank.
Has anyone here done that before??

Thats cool. i never would have figured it to be brass. My brother owned my 83 1100e before me, and he had it painted. The gas cap was forgotten during painting. it remained in primer thru my ownership and as a joke/continuing history, my cousin who bought it from me said the gas cap will never be painted

Oh, the possibilities?
I'm thinking I'll keep mine black as I don't want to fight the glare.
Trevor, looks to me like you might need a "little" brake fluid in your front master cylinder reservior, eh?
Careful with those two screws! the centers round out quite easily, I had to use an impact to free one of mine which I promptly discarded after I ordered and received two new ones. The new ones I put in I didn't tighten
as much as I normally would because their easier to tighten than to loosen, and I used some anti-seize on the threads also. I don't ever want to have to resort to drilling those.
I like the plastic cap type of the GS1000 better because of that and these 1100's ones seem to seep fluid blistering the paint away. I'm thinking a new diaphram might fix mine.

I cheated. I took it to a place that polished my engine covers and forks, called Victoria Plating. I'm assuming a buffing wheel. I have now coated it with some brass polish for protection.

Ha, nice. I'm in the process of building a work bench in my garage. I just may have to add a buff/grinding wheel to the list. Projects projects....
