Hey all. Since winter is well on it's way I thought I would try out a nice Vetter I've had, waiting for the G's first winter.





It does it's job no doubt about that. Amazing how much warmer it is behind it. A couple of problems though. The headlight will not point high enough, I've adjust it as high as it will go via the adjusting knob. As well I've got to change the bulb in the H4 light, how the heck do you get the cover off?? Also, I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the top of the shield lays directly in the middle of my line of site. I'm sure I'll get used to it but it just seems odd. I'm not sure what bike the mounting rack was from, obviously a GS but I had to make some simple straight brackets as the mounting holes did not line up vertically. If someone can confirm that the fairing 'looks' like it is sitting in the right spot on the bike that would be a help.

There is a tab on the underside of the headlight retaining ring, depress it, rotate the ring and it will come off. I think it's CCW.

So after spending a bit of time on here I've answered all my questions, lol. I have the wrong mounting bracket. I need a straight screwdriver put in the bottom tab of the light and it should twist off like a bottle lid. And the fairing is not supposed to be so up right, it should be at a bit of an angle towards the handle bars...good ol' GS resources. Oh well, at least I got to post some pics. Now to the 'parts wanted' section.

...just a suggestion from another cold weather Vetter fan. Get the lowers if you can. Legs are nice and toasty from the hot engine air channeled towards them. Very nice.

Cannot beat a Windjammer 5 for the cold. If you can find the lowers it is even better.

NO. DON'T USE A SCREWDRIVER!!!

Just push IN (toward the center of the light) on that tab and rotate the chrome trim. As rustybronco suggests, I also think it's CCW.

True enough, but that's not a Windjammer 5.

The Windjammer 5 has a mask over the headlight, unlike all previous versions. With the turn signals built in, it is either a Windjammer 4 or a Windjammer SS. Click HERE to see how to identify which one you have. Scroll waaayyy down the page.

If you ever have to look through the windscreen you are not doing it right. Either the windscreen is too tall, you are too short, or the fairing isn't mounted correctly.

I you want some lowers for it I have a couple sets.

Ya that's exactly right Trevor. You can see in those pictures the fairing is tilted more. Craig Vettor has some real good info on his site about installation, he also mentioned that sometimes you have to cut the shield so it works for you. I've put out a call in the parts wanted section for the proper mounting rack. Hey Steve, the screwdriver idea is what I read on the Vetter site, but I'll try your method first..hey you're the second person to say "CCW"..what does that mean And thanks for the offers on lowers Charlie and tkent02, I'll pm you both and see if anyone has the right ones. All I need to ad to the bike today is a water proof enclosure, it's raining cats and dogs here today.

I think I'm ok for pictures at the moment. One thing that sure is strange riding with the fairing is how it does not turn with the wheel. I'm sure I'll get used to it but boy does it throw you off the first time.
