E,N, C, paint codes?

This forum continues to inspire/shame/motivate/guilt me into doing some of my own work in my mint 1979 GS 1000E model. I THINK that I succeeded in researching and fixing an enricher problem. (which was always a choke before I read more). We'll see if I read it all correctly when it is time to fire it up in the spring.

On to the next minor crisis. The cosmetics on my bike are a "9", except for one nagging scratch that PO warned me about. There is about a 1" scratch/gouge in the tank, where he dropped something on it in storage. Very sad because the entire bike is as good as it gets for a 30+ yr old bike. I was trying to track down any threads about touch up and paint codes that apply. I always struggle with the suffix on these bikes. Is it an EN? Is that extra letter just attached in some manuals and parts fiches just to confuse State College guys like me? Mine is a black bike with factory paint and pin stripes (gold and blue).

Has anyone found a good source for touch up paint or a code that matches well?

Look in a parts fiche, the paint code is in there

The N is indeed the 79 model year designation

Having the paint code doesn't do you any good because there is no source for touch up paint.

Give these guys a call. They say that if they don't have your code, you can send them a part and they will color match it.

FYI, I have not used them, just found them in a Google search.

I thought at one time colorrite offered the older paint colors. It can't hurt to drop them a line or two asking if they still have the formulas to make up a tin.

Good info. I didnt see that in my searches. I dont doubt the chart, but it puzzles me how the fiche is set up on some sights. For example, on Boulevard Suzuki's web page fiche (lots of people on this forum seem to use it), they show a 79 model alternatively listing an EC, an EN, and M, and a C. Some of the other fiche sources on the web seem just as confusing.

The paint codes do appear in a few of the fiches out there (I find it on Bike Bandit). My concern is that the they show more than one black code for my bike (EN, 1979). There is both a "black" and a "pearl black". I dont think that suzuki made two different black models back then, and I am guessing that mine is pearl....hmmm

I had my tail piece painted a few years ago with what is an exact match for the Suzuki black on my NOS tank. Even when viewed in bright sunlight the metallic flake, both size and colour, is exact. The colour is Flameco Black Pearl code NH592P (PPG I think???, try google) from a 2000 Honda Civic. I think the exact same colour with a slightly different code was also used on the Honda Nighthawk.

These guys cyclecolor.com had some good info and I bought their touch up paint. They seem to know what they are talking about. They also suggested:

"We have a Suzuki Black Pearl listed.
It has a very fine mica (metallic blue flecks) in it.

A 2oz. Touch-up bottle is ($20.50)
We recommend you use a Clear-coat over the color."

We'll see once it gets here. I will try to post a before/after pic.

I just got a 83 katana tank and fairing touched up at a local body shop he charged me 250 cash ,he had trouble matching , he took it to another place who matched colours , it looks great now like new !now I have a 750 red set next to take in , just some chips and scratches
