can anyone tell me what year/model this gs1000 is?
I was told by PO that it is a 78. I don't have the paperwork for it and the silver plate is missing of the neck the stamped one reads GS1000-501474.
The tank is smooth sided with screw on badges the tail has rib the seat is split level will try to put photo up.

You have a 1978 GS1000E

1978 GS1000EC frame VINs start with GS1000-500001
1979 GS1000EN frame VINs start with GS1000-515728

Looks like a 78 E alright,it has a 79 or 80 no indent tank.

Thanks for that. sounds like i'll have to keep a ear out for the right tank. am trying to keep it fairly standard but saying that hope to have slotted disks on her soon.

I know it looks rough but it is a work in progress frame is powder coated and everything works and just finished making the 2 y joint for the exhaust
gets done in drips and drabs as body allows me too.

Good luck with finding a 78 tank.Seems they are thin and prone to rusting out.Good ones go for big $$.
