    What size are my handlebars??

I have an 81 GS400L, and I'd like to have a friend weld me up a set if custom handlebars.

He's asking for the diameters of the existing bars, but I don't have a caliper to measure.

I'm fairly certain they are 7/8 (.875), but I'm not positive.

Does anyone know for sure? What about tube thickness? I don't want to have to rip my grips off to measure.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!!

7/8" is by far the most common size and so near to being a standard, you may as well consider it so. H-Ds and some others are 1" dia.
I've wondered if there's much to be gained by going to 1" bars - probably not.

They look manlier and it is easier to run the cables internally through the bars with the 1". Otherwise, no gain.
