    1978 gs 1000 e spray painted tank

Was bored yesterday and thought id add a little paint and laquer to the tank .. it was covered with scratched and chips . And the po just spray painted it , therefore a small drop of gas on the tank would just mess it up ..
Its temporary until I figure out what colour scheme I wanna do with this girl ..
Didnt do the side covers or rear fairing yet . Also threw some black vynal stripes on her , just cuzz I had some laying around and again was bored !! Lol . All in all she looks a little better ...

Looks very nice. Is the photo before or after you got bored?

My BassCliff chart shows, for 1978: 1000, 1000e and 1000h.

Do you know which one is the "Skunk"?
1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Can't tell from the pic, looks nice from far away, but if it looks good enough to keep cover it with 2K clear, it is real 2 part urethane paint in a spray can. It will stay looking good even if you get gas on it.

Had this bike just a couple months now . And just got tired of looking at all thegas stainz and scratches ..Im thinking the po just unloaded a can or two on this bike to make it look cleaner .. kept it red for one reason only ..my 650 is also red which enables me to switch the plates back and fourth ... SHHHHHH my little secret !!!

I could havedone anything to it and it would have looked better then it was !! Lol . Bought my can of clear coat at this car paint shop , the guy told me to use thisstuff to clear coat it afterwards . Said to apply when the spray paint was tacky ..
This place makes whatever colour you want and they put it in a spray can for you ..

looks like the bike has the indent on the gas tank and the tail piece. that's how i define a skunk.

Skunks are pretty sought after by the GS fraternity, and are becoming somewhat collectable, they didn't only come in black and white either.

So you could keep yours red and still be original.

So yours is not the 1000E, which had dual front discs. Must be a 1000C. If you want to know what a proper skunk is do a search on this site. You'll see a couple of discussions

There are differences of opinion on this
