      The GS850s and GS1000s (non-L models) are rumored to be the most butt-friendly bikes of the era.

        They weren't bad, at that. I got used to them, but I found if I was on a break for more than a couple of weeks, it took a few days to get my butt seat-hardened again to the 300 mile-plus point. On balance, I'd say it was a toss-up between the GS and the BMW RT seats in the day.

                I opened the seat this weekend to ad another layer of foam.
                I had a piece of Memory foam 1-1/2" thick I wanted t layer into the front half of the seat and add a layer of stiffer foam..
                Here are some pictures of what it looks like under the foam ; the under seat hooks system to fasten the cover and misc...







                This is how it looked before the extra foam was added...

                  And here are some shots of the "after adjustment"
                  I think the layer of grey stiff foam was a mistake as I can feel the seam where it ends inside the seat..
                  To be determined over a few riding sessions...







                  Finished and recovered temporarily again... -- Go for a ride...
