Nice engine detail

I repainted the valve cover on my "E" and it made the rest of the engine look pretty bad so I decided to try Gunk Engine Brite Foamy and Gunk Engine Brite Shine.

I put wax on the body parts and tank to protect them. I applied the "Foamy," left it on for 15 minutes and rinsed with water, then dried the bike with my leaf blower. I applied the Shine by spraying directly on the engine and other parts. The instructions suggest you spray on a cloth and wipe on or spray directly on the parts for a more glossy shine. It is meant for plastic and rubber but you can judge for yourself from the picture how it works on the engine. I don't know how it will hold up but at the very least it will be good for cleaning the bike up for a show.

I really like the result but I would suggest you use a respirator because the products are pretty nasty and be prepared for the cloud of smoke when you start up.


I'm sure somebody noticed the valve cover end caps are missing. I'm going to repaint them today.

Your results look great from this shot, but could you please possibly add a close up pic? Did it really get it clean down to the black paint?

I would be worried that Gunk Engine Brite Foamy would be too aggressive for motorcycle engine paint, but I guess not!

How's this? Ooh, the closeup makes me anxious to paint the carbs. I wasn't sure about Gunk either but I figured I'd repaint the motor someday anyway so I covered the newly painted valve cover and rolled the dice.

Looks great! Trevor, my carbs lost their black during chemical soaking after purchasing my bike years ago. Maybe thats what happened to Glibs.

Also, Trevor, are your tires stock size? I intend to get stock size Pirelli's for one of my bikes and Michelin's for the other to see which I like better.

I just put a pair of Pirelli "Sport Demons" on, and so far they're great.

That looks great, may be doing my 1100GL black with carbs black and polish the tops of them. Not a fan of taking engine out so will see how motivated I am taping stuff off. lol. Now I am inspired by seeing what you did.

Tires are 130/90/17..I think it's one size bigger than stock. I have the sport demons...they don't last as long as the Avons but have great grip. I will probably go back to Avons

Thanks for the tire size info Rob S and Trevor. I think I will follow through and get a set of Pirelli Demons and a set of Michelins. Even though the Demons apparently don't last long, I don't drive many miles so I expect so I prefer the grip. I haven't seen any feedback on the forum about the Michelins but I love the car tires so I'll give them a go also.
