Can I change the bike from an 1100L to a 1100 E ?
I'm looking at a bike an 82 1100L but I like the looks of the 1100E better. This bike got laid down so it needs a new tank, so I was wondering if I could scour the internet for 1100E body parts and just do a conversion. Is the frame different between the two models? Or would it just be a nuts and bolts conversion?Tags: None -
Different frame. Sell it and buy the E. -

If you want an E then buy an E as has been suggested. Different frame, different engine (no they are NOT the same), tank, seat, handlebars, etc.I'm looking at a bike an 82 1100L but I like the looks of the 1100E better. Many members here chase the dream of "molding" their L into a G or E but I never saw the point really. Sell and buy what you want. That's 2 votes for selling the LComment

What's different about the engines? Slightly different jetting or is there a real change?
Never heard that before, and I've been using L engines for parts for quite a while.Comment

Or are you talking Shaft vs. Chain engines?Comment

OK, some of the Ls were chain drive 16 valve engines, not sure which years.Comment

That's what I thought. I am not dead set on this bike, but I thought I could make it more racey looking with lower bars and ditching that ugly seat and rear fender.Comment

Yeah, just not worth the effort IMO. One member here, Wingconsin, has an 850L that he is altering the seat on to the tune of about $500, I could never recommend doing that.Comment

And when all is said and done, it'll still be an L.
