Dropped by my paint shop and my painter was busy doing prep on my tank which is to be painted. He mentioned to me that he was confused. I am pretty certain that the paint on the tank was original based on overspray on the bottom and the color and use of OEM decals. He thinks it is a re-paint. The top part of the repaint is base/clear but under is also a blue that he feels is a one stage epoxy. There was NO primer under the blue. I have a 1980 GS1000G and it sure looks like the original paint to me. Anyone have a clue? Just curious because once he gets to bare metal, there won't be anymore blue about the paint anyway.

It could be a colored primer. I think that color blue has a few stages involved.Ed

No pics, sorry, didn't think about it. I thought that with this many folks on this board who have painted, they would remember if there was a recognizable primer (grey, I guess) because once you sand through the blue under the bc/cc, there is no recognizable primer, only the blue stuff the painter though was a single stage epoxy paint.Comment
