Wheel paint?

I've always liked the sinister look of black wheels on cars.... Long before the tuner kids were putting them on their Civics, and before "murdering out" ones car was a thing, I wandered my world in a vintage ElCamino with black steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps..... Cool for miles....
Same applies to bikes IMO.
I've toyed with the idea for several years, and now in a rare instance I'm due to replace both tires at the same time. If I'm going to do it, now is a good time.
BUT, powder coating is out of the budgetary question, and baking a coating in the household oven as in a thread here recently is a no go as well. Is there a rattle can paint that will hold up well and withstand road abuse and the ocassional misguided blast of chain lube? I've read here that appliance paint is pretty tough.

I use VHT Epoxy Paint in either a gloss black or satin black for most of my stuff.


The wheels and engine were done in gloss black, the forks in satin black.


So far, it seems to hold up quite well, but like anything else that is paint-related, the key is PREPARATION.

This will spray over any paint as well, for an extra gloss (if desired) and durability.

I've used Dupli-color's High Performance Wheel coating and it works good. Appliance "Epoxy" would work to but it takes more than a week to cure properly.It's not really epoxy but strong enamel as I suspect is the stuff Steve used.True epoxy paint will "chalk" with UV and wouldn't really be that good.

Thanks gents. Now that I know there is a viable spray can product, I think im going to try to get this done this winter.

I did my wheels in the DupliColor wheel paint. They're holding up well.
