Fairing mounts welded on to headlight ears????

I got a 1980 gs550e over the summer, it came with this really bulky fairing on it so I went to take it off but I found that the mounts to it look liked they were factory welded on. Was this a factory option or just someone's personal modification?

I've been riding and working on these bikes for 35 years, and I've never heard of a factory-fitted fairing on an 8-valve 550. Having said that, Suzuki did occasionally offer different options for different markets, but I've looked at US part fiches many times, and never noticed a fairing option for your model. So I'd say aftermarket mod. Looks nicely done.

I agree.....the previous owner had to have welded it on.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

That's not a Suzuki fairing, so must be a mod. Resembles a Kawasaki GPz fairing.

It does if I can get a pic of the mounting bracket I would, is it possible that the headlight frame and fairing mounts are off another bike that fit the forks?
