    Will 1981 GS1000G gas tank fit a 1980 GS1000G?

Being the proactive pack-rat that I am, there is a pretty nice gas tank on CL that I am considering for my 1980 GS1000G to keep as a spare. Only possible issue is that it's from a 1981 model. (or so the listing claims) Can anyone confirm or deny if it will fit or can be used as a possible replacement? I know Suzuki flattened the sides in 1982, but this one looks identical (except for the color) to mine.

You can't have enough spare parts!

    Thanks, Mark

if i check Partzilla, it looks like the same tank based on OEM nr.
Guess the difference is in the decals and tank badges etc.

      Yes, it will fit.

      So will a tank from a '79-'81 850G.

Only difference is color and decals.

Okay, thanks for the input. I"ve negotiated down to 90.00 for the tank because it looks like I'll have to spend the money on POR to stop the rust which is not cheap. I'm sure it's worse than the pictures he posted because he didn't have a shot looking directly into the thank. Do you guys think that's a fair price, and do the tank coatings actually work?

It's a good deal and yes, POR 15 works great

If it's just a bit of mild rust try vinegar for a few days, rinse with baking soda and water then fill with gas.

The tank mountings changed in 82 on most models.
