Seat Identification Help

Hello Everyone,
I was given this seat a few days ago in a parts deal, the Owner said it was off a GS1000 but I am skeptical (I own a 78 GS1000 and the seat does not fit). Can anyone shine some light on what this might have been off of? It's clearly been recovered.

It looks like the seat from a 1980 GS1000S.
The stepped shape and the quilted pattern in the cover of the '80 as opposed to the flat bench shape and stamped cover of the '79.

I would've thought it would fit your '78.

Interesting, he did say he rode a GS1000S for 30 years - but I was skeptical. But yes, strange that it doesn't fit the 78.
