GS 400 carburetor 'rubber' manifold to engine spacers, which way round ??

The 'diamond' shaped spacers that are pushed back in between the carb rubber manifolds and the engine when the carbs are refitted have a raised section in the bore, do these need to be a specific way round ie at a bottom corner or a top corner ??? ...? any info gratefully received
