    Mikuni CV Carb ?

    Hi folks ive just rebuilt the carbs on the 86 Gs 850 G but 1 question . The pilot jet next to the main jet , does this screw right down tight or is there so many turns out thats needed ?
    Not the pilot air screw just to be clear .

    just snug it in. I've seen several strip the head off when trying to remove, thinking they were tightened too tight when installed.

      Ok thanks for that , ill get onto it pronto . Just waiting for the carb allen bolt kit then it will be time for its first start in 10 yrs

        Tight enough not to unscrew themselves and fall out. This has happened to me because I was a little too gentle with them. Don't forget the black rubber caps that seal the pilot jets. Very important.

          Yes i have the 4 rubber plugs . The tiny holes in the jets were blocked so cleaned all them and glad i took them out as well as the main jet emulsion tubes as these were worse . Surprised it ran at all . Put new needle jets and seats in as the needle jets were worn quite bad . Reason i ask all this info was because its the first time ive ever fully dismantled a block of 4 carbs but in reality its pretty straight forward although time consuming . Therapeutic though

            Did you do a full and proper rebuild? Follow the tutorial linked in my signature? Replace all the O-rings? In particular, the pilot circuit needs to be cleaned. That involves remove the pilot screws, and soaking the carb bodies in a strong carb cleaning solvent. Just replacing the pilot jets doesn't clean the passages, and from what you say, your carbs are really scaled up inside.

              I did take them apart fully to the bare shells and had all the orifices that were gummed up emulsion tubes pilot jets and air jets ect . Replace all the o rings that had gone hard .
              Ill be running stock air filter even though i have some k&N pods from an older project . There were some adaptor air seal grommet things that supposed to fit in place of the o rings to the t pieces but they are too tight to plug into the carb boddies .

                    Thank you very much for letting me know Nessis:n . They came in the box of spares when i got the bike so they will go back in the box

                          Thanks , so i guess these are a kind of support for the boots to stop them getting crushed .
