Carb Paint damage after ultrasonic cleaning
I'm cleaning carburetors in a very hot Ultrasonic Cleaner with Dawn dishwashing liquid. It seems to affect the black paint poorly making it dull and some flaking. Do you know of any better solution?Tags: None -
That's how it goes. The cleaning action, cleans the paint OFF. Same with carb dip and black paint. It's just what happens. Check the rebuild tutorial linked in my signature, the sample carbs were black...but became silver during the cleaning process. I did some minor touch up with paint stripper, though.
BTW, if you can't see my signature, go into your profile and turn on "view signatures" (or something to that extent.) I've got O-rings for your carbs too.Ed

And should they be soda blasted and powder coated? Is that a potentially successful venture. (Yes, I'm experienced. Just have blasted and coated carbs before.)Comment

There are various courses of action. You need to decide for yourself. The carbs in this tutorial were black, but now silver. I think they look better... https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/mtsac...d_Tutorial.pdfEd
