I was looking at the aftermarket options, and Delkevic seems to be well liked here. They have systems for the GS1000, but nothing specifically for the -G. Does anyone have any experience with what modifications might need to be done (if any) to fit their system? An adapter for the hanger bracket?

Aftermarket Exhaust Options for GS1000G?I have a 1980 GS1000G that is suffering from rust finally eating its way out through the bottom of both mufflers on the stock system. I've done some searching on the forum and it sounds like the various 8-valve motors can have exhausts swapped around, but the rear brackets and heat shields on stock systems might not line up.

I think you'll be fine with the Delkevic. I fitted one to an 1100G. You may have to fabricate a new rear bracket I would think....

I used to have a V&H 4:1 fitted to my 1000G. It was fine (with an adapter at rear). I also have 1000E system fitted to it for a while. Same thing... just needed an adapter at the back on each side. 1980 GS1000G - Sold 1980 GS1000G - Sold

See the pictures linked below for pictures of my installation. A couple of things had to be changed to make this exhaust fit on my GS1000G. They were:- The stock 45mm header bolts were too long, as the new flanges are much thinner. 35mm bolts were a good fit.
- The Delkevic bracket fouls the rear frame just barely. Spacing it out with two washers and giving it the slightest additional bend outward sufficed to make clearance.
- The brake lever can be adjusted, along with bending and spacing the rear bracket, to make just enough space. A warning: you may find this pedal adjustment to be too high for your taste, but it can be made to work. At full rear brake application, I can just barely see daylight between the pipe and lever.

Nice to see that you have already accomplished your installation, but for those reading this for reference in the future, let me say (from personal experience) that the 850G and 1000G pipes are very similar, but the mounting bolts at the collars are ever-so-slightly differently spaced. I did not measure just how much, but the 1000 bolts are about 5-6mm farther apart. Just enough difference that the holes in the collars would have to be slotted to fit the other size engine.Originally posted by moudis View PostI have a 1980 GS1000G that is suffering from rust finally eating its way out through the bottom of both mufflers on the stock system.
