    Broken Carb?

Hey guys new member here! First time owning and working on a motorcycle so I’m pretty green. That being said, I pulled the carbs off the bike to rebuild them and made a lovely discovery. Someone has broken the cavity that the pilot screw goes into and tried to fix it with some type of material I can only imagine is JBweld. Am I correct in assuming this carb is now trash?

      Welcome, Tony.

Those posts often have slots cut in them to facilitate getting a beefier tool on the screw because it’s stuck. If there are enough threads down inside, you may get lucky.

That said, you’ll want to follow a Proper CV cleaning/rebuild tutorial like this one written by Ed Ness (Nessism).

Ed also sells full oring kits for your carbs. You’ll need it. Go to any post by Nessism, check his signature for link on how to order.

Another thread you need to read is the Top Ten Newbie Mistakes Thread. Guess who wrote it.
1A) (NEW) Trying to diagnose running problems on a bike with an unknown maintenance history. Common maintenance items like clean carbs, properly adjusted valves, no air leaks in the intake system (airbox, carb boots), a clean gas tank (no rust), and a properly functioning petcock are 100% mandatory for the bike to run properly.

If the threads on the mixture screw are mostly in the carb body, no problem
